Who are we? Members of AZDPC (Arizona Democratic Progressive Caucus) are self-defined "progressive" members of the Arizona Democratic Party State Committee. Associates of AZDPC are all those who wish to participate in a progressive movement in Arizona.
What is a Progressive? Much is being written around the country right now, helping us to define our movement. For some insights, please go to the Liberty Tree portion of our site, where we will highlight some of those views. Some people say that in a choice between the left and the right, we represent the North. We are interested in moving forward in the 21st century to build a fair and equitable, sustainable world that works for all of our children and grandchildren through many generations.
Why did we gather together? The Democratic Party is made up of people, many people, who vote to support the candidates and issues that they most nearly identify with. In recent years, many voters have felt left out of that process, believing that no-one represented them within the party. We want to educate and organize ourselves, the Party, our elected officials, and Arizona voters to consider policy matters that grassroots activists believe must be addressed to enhance the common good. We want to to provide a visible voice and place within the party that represents their 21st century values.
Why do we reach out to organize Arizona progressives beyond the State Committee? We believe that, like any desert cactus, the party is fed by its grass roots, and the deeper the tap root, the stronger the plant. If a plant is cut off from its roots, both the roots and the plant wither and die. Therefore, we believe that the party and its roots are mutually necessary for the life cycle of our party to to flourish and bear fruit.
Will this help the Democratic Party? In our view, of course so. We believe that by giving a voice to and providing a listening ear to grassroots progressive issues within the Party, committed organizers can be recruited to work again for Democratic candidates. We also believe that our party is only viable in so far as it boldly hears and represents its constituents.
How can I join in? First, sign in at the top of the Caucus home page. You will receive a newsletter and alerts, and this will help us keep a database of who is out there. If you not already a PC and a member of the State Committee of the Arizona Democratic Party, Please consider taking that step. You can read up on the rules in the Grassroots How-To section.
